How It Started

In 2018, we set out to revolutionize the vertical climbing machine. Bringing together an innovative, vertical climbing machine design with an engaging platform of world-class fitness instructors and strong community engagement.

A New Concept In Fitness

CLMBR changed the way vertical climbing machines had been approached. Re-engineering the machine from the ground up allowed for greater freedom of the users' movement while creating additional space for a touch display that could deliver interactive content, games and much more to every user.

World-class skier, fitness guru, role model, philanthropist, and overall free spirit. The retired American World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist is passionate about climbing and decided to join the CLMBR team in early 2020.

Avrum Elmakis bio picture

Avrum Elmakis

Founder and CEO of CLMBR, the vision of the company came to Avrum in late 2018 and the business was formed in mid-2019. He is passionate about vertical climbing as a natural and primal movement that is self-regulating, no-impact, and highly efficient. He specializes in disruptive innovation and has had multiple successful exits over his career. Prior to founding CLMBR, Avrum was the Founder and CEO of TDBBS, one of the US’s largest sellers of natural dog treats and chews. During his tenure, he earned the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award, amongst many other honors. He still serves on the board of TDBBS, along with Lumena Labs, Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver, and the James Madison University Entrepreneurship Council. Avrum is also an active member of YPO and resides in Cherry Hills Village, CO with his wife Lauren and their four daughters.

Neil has deep experience in broad scalable innovation and is featured in numerous best-selling books including, Amazon Unbound, Always Day One , Behemoth Amazon Rising, and AI in The Wild. Neil has held various positions at Amazon.com, including Strategy Head for Fulfillment and the General Manager and Inventor of the Amazon Small and Light global program in which he holds 11 USA patents. Neil is quoted, interviewed, and written about in WSJ, Bloomberg, Inc., Forbes, CNBC and winner of numerous leadership awards including the prestigious Amazon.com “Just Do It” Award and is a Distinguished Visitor for the USA Navy. Neil has been married for many years with 3 children and a silly dog.

Chris Warner

Climber, entrepreneur, film-maker, author, and leadership expert, Chris has led over 200 international mountaineering expeditions, taking teams to the summits of Everest, K2, Kilimanjaro, and Mount Vinson. Chris was the first American to solo an 8,000-meter peak, climbing the 7000 ft tall South Face of Shishapangma in a 34-hour non-stop push. Chris was the founder and CEO of a national chain of indoor climbing gyms which he grew to over 1000 employees before selling to a private equity group. He has extensive teaching experience, with 35 years of leadership teaching to clients such as Google and the NFL, and 16 years at the Wharton School of Business.

Her general management orientation is combined with core expertise in business strategy, marketing, brand development, and innovation. Known as a strategic innovations expert, Debbie has led WhiteWave as SVP for 5 years following her tenure at Conagra. She currently serves on the board of several publicly traded companies.

Chad Hurley bio picture

Chad Hurley

American media mogul, co-founder and former CEO of the video-sharing websites YouTube and MixBit. Hurley founded YouTube in 2005 with Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. On October 16, 2006, Chen and Hurley sold YouTube to Google Inc. for $1.65 billion. In August 2013, Hurley launched another company called MixBit which does video editing using smartphones. MixBit, now Zeen, was acquired by BlueJeans in August 2018. Hurley is a part-owner of the NBA's Golden State Warriors and the MLS' Los Angeles Football Club. Chad will be assisting CLMBR with content platform development.

Founder and Managing Director of Tasseo Consumer Ecosystem, a $100MM private equity fund that Dan started in 2019 to focus on consumer-packaged goods companies. Prior to founding the fund, Dan was the COO of Prairie Dog Pet Products and helped grow the revenue-rate at 400%. Upon graduating from Stanford Business School, he worked in consulting and private equity for Encore Consumer Capital.

Kevin leads Carta’s VC and Accelerator practice. Prior to Carta, Kevin spent almost 8 years at Amazon across Retail, Consumer Engagement, and Devices orgs leading Amazon’s $200MM corporate venture fund, Alexa Fund, portfolio development. He also is an active investor across VC (LP and direct), real estate and public equities. Kevin has experience across platforms, marketplaces and network, and hardware enabled businesses. Sector focus in deep tech, consumer and consumer enablement, hardware, b2b /enterprise. Value add on product/business/sales strategy, culture, and scaling.

Jones played eleven seasons in the National Football League with the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and the Cincinnati Bengals. Following his impressive professional athletic career, he serves as host and investor on the CNBC show Adventure Capitalists, where he and other investors listen to pitches and try out new products from new entrepreneurs. Jones is also involved in several business ventures, including founding Bow Tie Café, a creative agency called Proclamation and serving as CEO of Petram Data.

Clayton (Clay) joined ArrowMark in 2008 as an Investment Analyst and has supported the firm’s equity, credit, & multi-asset strategies during his tenure. Today Clay’s primary responsibilities include serving as Portfolio Manager for Meridian Enhanced Equity Fund, leading the risk management strategies and idea generation for ArrowMark’s multi-asset investment strategies, driving private company partnerships and investments as a member of ArrowMark’s Capital Solutions Group Investment Committee, and representing ArrowMark’s investment team as a member of the firm’s Operating Committee. ArrowMark’s Capital Solutions Group, where Clay is a member of the Investment Committee, is focused on building long-term partnerships with high quality private companies and supporting those partners’ capital needs (debt & equity) throughout their lifecycle (public & private). Clay has served as Board Member to SmartLabs, Inc, Convene, and CLMBR and remains a Board Observer for Starry, Inc. Prior to joining ArrowMark, Clay began his formal investment career working as a research associate at Janus Capital Group. Clay graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Colorado and earned an MBA with a Finance concentration from the Daniels College of Business at Denver University.

She is also an accomplished investor with many exits. Prior to this she was primarily in sales and business development within the medical device industry. She is married with four daughters and resides in Denver, Colorado.

Najeeb Thomas, MD

Dr. Thomas is a native of Louisiana and practices in his home city of New Orleans. He completed a residency in neurosurgery at Louisiana State University in New Orleans. He trained at the world-famous Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He completed special additional training on complex spine and minimally invasive spinal procedures in Memphis, Tennessee, under the direction of Kevin T. Foley, M.D. He has lectured about spinal procedures on four continents and had interactions with hundreds of surgeons around the world. He is recognized as an innovator, and continues to be active in the latest development of minimally invasive spine procedures so that his patients may receive the most advanced spinal care in the world.

Timothy R. Kuklo, MD, JD

Dr. Kuklo brings more than 25 years of medical expertise in his role as a principal spine surgeon and Co-Director at the Denver International Spine Center at Presbyterian / St. Luke's Medical Center. Dr. Kuklo graduated with honors from the United States Military Academy at West Point before graduating with honors from the U.S. Army Ranger School and serving in the 82nd Airborne Division. He is an expert in degenerative spine disorders including complex scoliosis deformities and revision failed spine surgery. His range of spine surgery and research includes a focus on soldiers and athletes, degenerative spinal conditions, spine tumors and infections, and trauma. He also uses comprehensive and cutting edge technologies including artificial disc replacement and minimally invasive spine surgery to help treat his patients which are common practices at the Denver International Spine Center. Dr. Kuklo has lectured extensively on treatment options for various spinal conditions. Dr. Kuklo holds many patents for medical devices and receives frequent requests to speak at medical events around the world.
